Our Dogs

Health-tested working Labradors and English Cocker Spaniels

At Grand Smirnof Kennels, our dogs are the foundation of everything we do.

We specialise in working-line Labradors and English Cocker Spaniels, selected for health, temperament, trainability, natural working ability and suitability for real life with active owners.

Our breeding programme is based on carefully chosen UK, Irish and European bloodlines. We look for dogs with good nerves, confidence, cooperation, natural drive, retrieving ability, intelligence and the ability to settle calmly at home.

For us, a good working dog should not only perform well in training or the field. It should also be stable, connected to people and pleasant to live with.

How we select our breeding dogs

Our dogs are evaluated as individuals before being used in our breeding programme.

  • Health testing
  • Temperament and stability
  • Trainability and handler focus
  • Natural retrieving and working ability
  • Pedigree and genetic background
  • Suitability for active family, sport and working homes

Health testing is an important part of our breeding decisions, but we also believe that temperament and everyday behaviour are just as important. A beautiful pedigree or good health result alone is not enough — the dog must also have the right character, mind and working attitude.

Working-line Labradors

Our Labradors are bred from working bloodlines, with a focus on natural retrieving ability, cooperation, intelligence and stable temperament.

We aim to produce Labradors that are active and capable, but not extreme. The ideal Grand Smirnof Labrador should enjoy training, have natural working instinct, stay connected to the handler and also be able to relax as part of family life.

Many of our Labradors are dark yellow, often called fox red, but colour is never our main breeding priority. Health, temperament, working ability and suitability always come first.

English Cocker Spaniels

Our English Cocker Spaniels are selected for temperament, health, trainability and natural working ability.

We appreciate Cockers that are joyful, intelligent, active and connected to people. A good working Cocker should have energy and enthusiasm, but also the right mind to learn, cooperate and live happily in an active home.
